For Funsies: DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Prequel Shorts

So DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES has become one of the most anticipated movies of the summer, edging out GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Given the fact that in the timeline of the movie, it's been 10 years since RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, there's a lot of important events that occurred in the meanwhile. Thankfully, there's been a series of prequel short films documenting the events of the world since the "simian flu." Thanks Motherboard  via Movies.com, you can check out these short films after the break

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Trailer Is Not Monkeying Around

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is one of the most highly anticipated sequels to a reboot/remake of the year. Joking aside, I really loved RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES back in 2011 and given this trailer, it seems DAWN will be a pleasant surprise during the summer blockbuster season. Check out the trailer, upload by the DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES YouTube page after the break.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Trailer Drops and Caesar Looks Fierce

It's been almost three years since we got a re-prequel-boot of Planet of the Apes franchise. No one, especially me, expected anything out of RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, but low and behold, I was pleasantly surprised and the film even made my top ten that year. Now, we get our first teaser for the sequel, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Here's the synopsis:
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

Behind the Scenes: Andy Serkis shows us why he should be nominated for RISE

There's been lots of talk over the past couple months about Andy Serkis's performance in RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. We were huge fans of the movie and put the film on each of our respective Top Films of the year lists. Most agree that the movie is such a success hangs on Serkis's performance as Caesar. Even James Franco wrote a piece championing for Serkis for Deadline.com

Today, Hitflix posted an exclusive video showing a CG-free Serkis as he performs the emotional scene of Caesar saying goodbye to Franco's character. The first half of the video is Serikis with just the sensors on his face and body, and the second half shows the finish product that was seen in the movie. If there was any doubt of what he brought to the film, this clip will put that to rest.

Oscar nominations haven't been announced yet, but I hope that academy members realize that this is the future of movies, and we will probably be seeing more and more performances that use this type of motion capture.

Remember That Time We Saw A 2 Minute Movie? RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Trailer Hits

I can't say I have an attachment to the PLANET OF THE APES franchise, but when I found out James Franco would be starring in a prequel/reboot, at least my interests were a little picked.  And then the trailer hit.  I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I really didn't think the movie would basically be summarization, give or take a few details.  The trailer does show off a lot of good effects and a good amount of suspense and horror. Head on over to Apple's Quicktime trailer site for a look at the upcoming movie.

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES comes out August 5th, 2011. It's directed by Rupert Wyatt and stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, and Andy Serkis.
