Netflix Instant: Movie & TV Picks - Expiring in January 1st Edition!

To be honest, the end of the year always sucks. Christmas keeps up busy without having any time to just chill. Then to make matters worse, a lot of movies are expiring from Netflix! Go check them out before they all leave January 1st!

Ever since Serial created podcasts, true crime seems to be a huge pop culture topic. The podcast, at least in my opinion, was more about the fallacy of the justice system than trying to find out the truth. But decades before Sara Koenig was investigating a teenager's murder, director Sidney Lumet adapated 12 ANGRY MEN from its original teleplay about 12 jurors deliberating on a young man's fate and shows how subjective the juror system can be. This is one of my favoirte movies of all time so go check it out if you haven't yet.

This comedy came out at a time where I was one of those really annoying atheist and the movie's portrayal of Christian youth culture was one of those things that I used in my very pleasant arguments against religion. Now that I'm not such an asshole,  I checked it out again and it's one of those comedies whose smart writing was not apparent to me at all. It's actually both critical and flattering about Christian youth and even non-Christians. The story deals with Jenna Malone's Mary trying to "fix" her gay boyfriend by having premarital sex and then hilarity ensues as she's ostracized from her various social groups.

If you know me, this should be a no-brainer. As big of a TF fan that I am, it's actually embarassing to say that I haven't seen all of the original cartoon. Anything past Season 1, to the best of my knowledge, was never dubbed to Spanish for broadcasting in Mexico so this was a great way to finally see the original cartoon without having to plop down the $100 for the set. If you can get past some cheesiness, there are some legitimately good stories in there.

Netflix Instant: TV and Movie Picks

It seems strange, but there's no releases this week that seem interesting (at least to me). Maybe we're all gearing up for GUARDIANS next week, but I plan on soaking in the air conditioning and catching up on some Netflix. Here are some titles I've run across recently that I think many would enjoy!

This is a great documentary about the man, Drew Struzan, who's behind some of the most iconic movie posters around. He has worked with Speilberg and Lucas multiple times. You've seen his posters, I promise, and what makes Drew even more impressive is he paints all the posters. Watching him work and create is amazing.

I had heard about this film for a few years before I finally watched it, and it completely lived up to the hype. It's dense, well shot, and has some great performances.

This is a classic which never gets old. It's a fascinating story about a jury during their deliberation before handing out a sentence which could cost a man's life. Jury 8 (Fonda) is the voice of reason and minority in thinking. If only all of us could be as confident and outspoken as him.
