THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Teaser Trailer Drops!

One thing you can always count on...these young adult movies waste no time getting their sequel out. THE HUNGER GAMES ended up being one of the most profitable films of last year making over 400 million dollars domestically. No doubt this sequel will probably smash the first film's box office success. The teaser trailer premiered tonight on the MTV Movie Awards (did anyone really watch?).

In the upcoming film, Katniss and Peeta are on their victory tour after the winning The Hunger Games, and there are seeds of uprising within the districts of Panem. And President Snow is none too pleased with this development.

Check the trailer after the break.

THE HUNGER GAMES trailer drops!

Well, the day has come where we actually see some footage from the upcoming HUNGER GAMES adaptation, and I have to say it doesn't look completely horrible. Full disclosure, I read the books and enjoyed the first one, but highly disliked the other two books. Needless to say, my skepticism of this book coupled with the annoying marketing strategy that Lionsgate has opted for have led me to be completely apathetic towards this new movie series. Like I said though, the trailer is actually pretty cool. Check it out after the break.

A very "meh" teaser for THE HUNGER GAMES

I guess Lionsgate is determined to ram this franchise down our throats before it's even released.

Apparently, last night at the VMAs, a teaser trailer for the upcoming Hunger Games  movie premiered.  Now, I've read the books, and I really enjoyed the first installment.  However, I feel, between all the random pictures and character info being released, that my excitement is dwindling exponentially already.

So here's the minute teaser which doesn't show much of anything.  And I predict that we'll be subjected to an overload of teasers and trailers from now until March.

Get More: 2011 VMA, Music

So what do you think? Pretty "meh" right?

THE HUNGER GAMES  will be relased Mar 23, 2012 starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

First Look at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen

For what has seemed like every week for a couple months, the movie news readers has been bombarded with casting news about the highly anticipated THE HUNGER GAMES.  Initially, it was exciting to watch and anticipate who would be chosen for the main trio of characters: Katniss, Peta and Gale, and once those had been cast by Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth (respectively), we were treated with what felt like a barrage of tribute casting with tribute after tribute

However all is settled now, and with filming just beginning, we are treated, courtesy of EW, with the first look and interview at the newly brunette Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen:

Eventhough I have some doubts about casting and the fact the movie probably won't be rated-R even though the story lends itself to be extremely gory, I am very excited for this movie.  I adore the this first installment of the series and couldn't put it down when I started reading.  Now, if they decide to make the other two, that's a different story, but we'll save that for another time.

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly will hit news stands May 20th.

THE HUNGER GAMES will be released March 23, 2012 starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, and Wes Bentley.

Jennifer Lawrence in the lead for Katniss Everdeen from THE HUNGER GAMES

After a while of hearing rumors that TRUE GRIT's Hailee Steinfeld was a sure pick for the upcoming adaptation of The Hunger Games by director Gary Ross, Lainey Gossip has gotten word that Jennifer Lawrence, is up for the lead role.

Javi: I personally have not seen WINTER'S BONE (but Jonesy has) and having read the books, I was really rooting for young Steinfeld to get this part. For all of the characteristics that people praised Steinfled, such as her maturity and quick wit, the character of Katniss embodies that as well. She is still in the running though, so let's keep fingers crossed! Regardless, I have heard many great things of Lawrence. She single-handedly carried one of the best movies of last year. I am excited to see who they do end up casting though.

Jonesy: Ever since TRUE GRIT jumped to the screen, Hailee Steinfeld has been on everyone's mind to play the iconic Katniss.  I was even convinced she would be perfect.  Now, with this news that Lawrence is in the running, I'm shocked that she never crossed my mind.  Lawrence is brilliant in WINTER'S BONE as the sole provider for her family after her father has skipped town.  She brings a quiet, yet strong presence to the screen.  Hard accomplishment for someone so young.  Either actress would be fantastic in the role of Katniss.

The book series was definitely an interesting entry into the young adult genre. It presented some pretty harsh and brutal obstacles for Katniss in the span of three books. It will be interesting to see how they depict some of the battles should the movie go forward as a franchise. For those not in the know, here's a description of the Hunger Games:

The Hunger Games is a young-adult science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. It was originally published on September 14, 2008, by Scholastic. It is the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy. It introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once stood. This is where a powerful government working in a central city called the Capitol holds power. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each district to fight to the death. The Hunger Games exist to demonstrate not even children are beyond the reach of the Capitol's power.

Thanks to the fine folks over /film for the set of news.

THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross and will be released May 23, 2012.
