Netflix Instant: TV and Movie Picks- New Year's Edition

Have you recovered from your New Year's hangover yet? Have you had your traditional black eyed peas for good luck for the new year? Are you already sick of all the football going on this weekend? Well, welcome to the first Netflix column for 2015! I have a couple picks for you as always. One great television show has finally made its way to streaming, and I have a couple films, which are all perfect for a lazy weekend before back to the real world on Monday.

It's finally here! No longer do the people have to watch reruns on TBS after work. Now you can flip to any season and watch any episode of one of the greatest and most rewatchable sitcoms out there. Perfect lazy weekend show to watch.

The fancy cocktail is slowly making its way back to bars. If you're an adult, no longer are the days where you order a liquor and soda or tonic. Fancy and fresh cocktails are the way to go. This documentary follows some of the forefront bartenders and bars who are trying to revive this pastime. This doc also makes me want to try everything they make. Great drink porn.

Usually dark comedies don't necessarily have a great rematch factor, but that is not the case for ELECTION. In what could easily be Reese Witherspoon's greatest role, this film follows a very determined and assertive student as she runs for student body president. Matthew Broderick plays her teacher, who's life is slowly falling apart and decides to take his frustration out on her. It's quite wonderful in all of its darkness and snark.

INHERENT VICE Trailer Drops!

Director Paul Thomas Anderson is coming out with a movie and people are freaking out. And since it seems that it's the concensus that THE MASTER was a good movie, there's some excitement that he has reunited with Joaquin Phoenix, the lead of the aforementioned movie. The trailer seems like it has a really fun almost Coens-esque vibe to it with the darkly comedic tone. Check it out after the break.

Netflix Instant: Cool TV and Movie Picks

Jonesy here for my awesome Netflix Instant picks for the week. All three of these I absolutely enjoy for very different reasons.

A film in the same category as BEFORE SUNRISE and BEFORE SUNSET; a couple meets and spends the day together talking about life, art, and love. However, this cerebral film begins to play with the viewers as we begin to ask questions about the couples relationship. Have they met before? Are they married? Or are they just playing with each other and us. Smart and charming.

Way before THE FIGHTER or WALK THE LINE, Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon were a couple of kids in love in FEAR. This movie is the typical 90's thriller, and I cannot help but have a soft spot for this cheese. And it has one of my favorite lines of all time, "Nicole 4-eva."

At one point in my life, I wanted to be an astronaut. True story. (And I still want to go to Space Camp at some point). This mini-series explores the NASA missions including Ed White's space walk, Apollo 13, and the Challenger tragedy. It's breathtaking, captivating, and awe-inspiring.

Netflix Instant: Cool TV and Movie Picks

It's been a while since there's been some Netflix Instant action here.  As the summer movie season comes to a close, the theater releases will become slim pickins.  Thankfully there's Netflix Instant to keep you entertained as we wait for the holiday movie season in a few months:

As a Disney nerd, I was really excited when I heard that Disney went back to its roots for this movie.  An updated story of the classic Rapunzel story, TANGLED is a throwback to the song and dance features that cemented Disney in the 90s.  A fun family film with one of my favorite scenes for 3D from last year.

Before Reese Witherspoon was a lawyer or a country singer, she started in this little coming-of-age movie of a young Louisiana girl smitten with her neighbor.

Another movie I thoroughly enjoyed last awards season.  It is completely worth a viewing for the performances from the unrecognizable Christian Bale and Melissa Leo.
