Netflix Instant: TV and Movie Picks

First, go out and see GODZILLA this weekend. Then, when you come back home, plop yourself down on the couch and watch this crazy combo of Netflix suggestions I have for you this week!

TERMS AND CONDITIONS MAY APPLY
This documentary is quite eye opening. No one I know actually reads all of the terms and conditions we are forced to sign. This film sheds light on all the actual things that are in those papers. There's no real answer to the problem, but it makes you think twice about mindlessly signing your name.

PAIN & GAIN
With this film, I think Michael Bay finally understands how eccentric of a director he is. He gets he's an extreme director that likes exaggerated shots, big explosions, and lots of action. I had no interest in seeing PAIN & GAIN, but my cohort kept hyping it up saying how Bay pretty much made a satire of his own directing style. And he was right. It's ridiculous, loud, and will make you want to gnaw on some raw meat when you're finished watching it.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
This is one of my favorite Shakespeare plays, and one of the coolest directors working, Joss Whedon, adapted it to the big screen a couple years ago. I absolutely love this version, and Amy Acker's Beatrice is one of the best I've ever seen. Plus, you can't go wrong with Nathan Fillion as Dogberry.

Jonesy's Top Ten Films of 2013

We made to 2014, and it's time for another year of great movies. I ended 2013 seeing 271 films, 70 of which were released in 2013. Overall, it was a great and entertaining year. My disappointments were more difficult to come up with than this list. I narrowed my list to 15, but then it was like pulling teeth trying to whittle it down to a top ten. As always, my list is in no particular order, and look for my honorable mentions and festival mentions towards the end.

My cohort has already posted his top films, and now….

Onto my list!

Favorite Films of 2013...So Far- Jonesy's Take

The first half of 2013 has been a surprise for me. The smaller films have been more standouts for me, and while they didn't play everywhere, most you can find on demand somewhere. Also, I seem to be gravitating towards the funnier films, which is great because the later half of the year is always full of downers and dramas.

Now onto the movies! And all the films are in no particular order.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING Trailer Drops and Jonesy Gets a Shakespeare Boner

Damn, I love Shakespeare. His comedies are always so witty and charming. I enjoyed Kenneth Branaugh's version of MUCH ADO from 1993, and now I am stoked about Joss Whedon taking a stab at this story. I had listed this film as one of my most anticipated of this year, and after seeing this trailer, my opinion hasn't changed. In fact, I'm even more excited.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING is a complicated tale of love between Beatrice and Benedict, who would rather verbally out spar each other than admit their love to one another. It also follows young Hero and Claudio on their wedding day as complications arise from the villainous Don John.

Most Anticipated Films of 2013: Jonesy Edition

Cheers everyone! I don't know about you, but I am very ready for what films 2013 is going to bring. Looks as if there will be the fair share of the popcorn blockbusters (IRON MAN 3, STAR TREK INTO THE DARKNESS, THOR: THE DARK WORLD), but there are some others out there that I am equally excited for. No surprise that my list is full of sci-fi films, but my list also weirdly has two films with Harrison Ford.

Check it out!

Netflix Instant: Cool TV and Movie Picks

Jonesy here with this week's edition of Netflix Instant picks. I have an eclectic mix this week with a semi-guilty pleasure, a great genre film, and a modern take on a classic play.

I was able to see this film last summer during the Asian Film Festival of Dallas. It's a gritty and bloody gangster drama between two powerful yakuka syndicates. If gangster movies are you thing, this is a must see.

Man can Kenneth Branagh make awesome Shakespeare movies. While his dramas have more notability, one of my favorites of his is MUCH ADO. It's sweet, poignant, and has an unforgettable performance from Michael Keaton.

I mean, need I say more about this one? You loved it; you know you did, and you always got excited when you happen to catch the reruns on cable. Now, it's all streaming. Oh what crazy antics will these crazy kids get into next?!
