Sportsball Trailer Watch: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

If you're not a fan of the Super Bowl, there's always one shining aspect of this night…all the movie trailers!

First up, we have the second trailer for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. We were treated to a trailer a few months ago, but this new one looks fantastic.

Here's the synopsis:
After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Trailer Drops!

Marvel's second wave of films started this summer with IRON MAN 3, THOR 2 in a couple weeks, and then we will get Captain America's second film early spring. The first Captain America film was one of the strongest individual films in the Avenger's world, and from the looks of the first official trailer, the sequel looks just as compelling.

Here's the synopsis:

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. TV Trailers that Look Like a Feature Film: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Edition

Phase two of the Avenger's films has just begun with IRON MAN 3 on the verge of making close to a billion dollars by the time its run is over. There are still several more movies coming down the pipeline, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, but to sustain your appetite and expand even more into the Marvel universe, ABC has picked up Joss Whedon's series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agent Coulson is back from his supposed death by Loki, which is a conversation for another time and place, and has put together a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division)  agents to investigate strange cases.

IRON MAN 3 Trailer Drops!

IRON MAN 3 poster Downey copy

Are you ready for round two? Now that the first set of Avengers films, we get to enjoy another set of individual Avengers films before the big sequel which is scheduled to be released in May 2015. The first one up for the second round (or in this case third) is IRON MAN 3. This third installment begins where THE AVENGERS left off where Tony Stark has saved the world and now must begin his life again.

I said when I posted the teaser trailer that this film is taking a darker tone from the first two, but after seeing the full length trailer, oh man, I got goosebumps.

Javi's Top Five of The Year (So Far)

Obviously it's a little later than the halfway point of the year; however, I did want to just check in with you guys and share my favorite movies of the year so far. As keeping with my particular standard, I will not recommend or post any movies that you cool kids could not see in a theatre near you, so movies from film festivals are completely out.

Check them out after the jump.

Jonesy's Top Five of the Year (So Far)

We're only half-way through the year, and if I'm being honest, making this list wasn't the easiest to do. Unfortunately it wasn't because there were so many films to choose from, but there hasn't been many films that have stuck with me. I'm hoping the second half of the year proves to be better, but for now, in no particular order, here are my top five films (and some honorable mentions) for 2012...so far:

For Funsies: Popcorn 66

Javi here. In this installment of "For Funsies", I wanted to bring to attention a podcast that's going to be a little different but still deals with movies. If you've read this blog at any point, you would know I'm a huge toy nerd. Believe it or not, there's a lot of toy podcasts out there and a group of bros (the good kind) of mine started Preorder 66, the high end toy podcast, (which you can subscribe by going to this link) dealing with nothing but super pricey collectibles that I can't afford half of the time. I love the podcast, not just because I'm friends with them, but the fact that they have more chemistry than an episode of BREAKING BAD. The main group is composed of host @Crasis, along with @Deefuzz@TheEmpir3@Ichab0d@TheJackSack, and @JarodimusPrime.  They decided that after THE AVENGERS came out, that they would record a podcast just talking about the movie as a spin off series and call it Popcorn 66.

As a movie-centric dude, I listen to a lot of movie podcasts myself. After a while, you realize that there is a bit of a weird hive mentality in the online critic community to the point where you hear the same opinion only said slightly differently. BOOOOOORING. What I appreciated about this podcast in particular is the fact that none of them apart from @TheJackSack are into movie culture and movie criticism nearly as much as people in say, The /Filmcast would be. This gives the discussion a totally different angle where they discuss the movie more from a fan's point of view than just a critic. I know that the line is hard to draw nowadays, but I think that's the reason the podcast was enjoyable.

I like to think that the conversational format of our site would show this, but Jonesy and I believe that movies are more interesting when there's an open forum of discussion which may bring a different appreciation to a movie. Too many times we get bogged down on whether a movie is "good" or "bad" that we never explore the nuances of it. And I think this podcast does a good job bringing to light different reasons for liking and disliking THE AVENGERS, which is amazing for a movie that has been talked about to death already. So go ahead and give it a listen! There's rumors that they'll be doing more as the summer season ramps up. Let's hope they do, at least for the sake of diversity. And beware, it's not going to be for the faint of heart. For those that aren't familiar with the podcast and the crew, they can get hilariously dirty.

THE AVENGERS Full Trailer- So is it May yet??

Jonesy here. I'm not a comic aficionado by any sort of stretch of any kind of imagination. In fact, I pretty much fall into the stereotypical type who enjoys comics through the movie format. Shame on me, but in all honesty, that's resources and time I don't have. And if I have any questions, I just go to my buddies who know those worlds.

Now THE AVENGERS movie has intrigued me from the beginning. Not necessarily for the characters, but for the strange experiment the studio is doing. I think it's an absolutely fascinating experiment to release movies about the individual characters first that all lead up and bring them together into the culminating film. So far, the experiment has worked. And now this summer, we get the culmination of THE AVENGERS.

We saw a teaser last fall, at the end of CAPTAIN AMERICA, and during the Super Bowl. This new one expands more on the Super Bowl trailer showing more character interaction (which looks hilarious), angry Loki (yay Tom Hiddleston!), and some sort of Transformers figure (who I guess needs work in-between Transformers films).

Check it out!

That Michael Bay-esque rotating shot towards the end is still one of my favorites.

THE AVENGERS will be released May 4, 2012 starring Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johannson, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston and Jeremy Renner.

THE AVENGERS Teaser Trailer is Here!

Just in time for the holiday season reminding us it is never too early to start thinking about next summer, we have our first look at the new Avengers.

The teaser looks pretty badass with some fun character interactions, but there's almost nothing about the plot of the movie. Someone or something is shooting from space and hating on our big cities as always.  And the earth may perish, but I'll be damned if they won't avenge us!  Also, I guess cool gals don't look at explosions.

I'm really stoked to see the culmination of years worth of build up. This experiment of having multiple movies set up each of the perspective characters hasn't really been done before, and I'm excited to see them all come together.

So will this movie experiment pay off?  and I guess the bigger question is....will it beat  THE DARK KNIGHT RISES next summer in at the box office?

Thoughts?  Are you as excited as we are??

THE AVENGERS will be released May 4, 2012 starring Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johannson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jeremy Renner.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER Trailer Hits!

In what can be considered the biggest and most expensive marketing campaign ever for a movie (THE AVENGERS), we have now have the first look into the first of two movies that will lead up to the events of the biggest superhero movie ever.  CAPTAIN AMERICA's new trailer hit last night, and apart from the goofy looking pre-steroid Chris Evans, the movie looks so good.  The amount of action will be insane from the looks of it with a good ol' patriotic feel to it.  Anyway, enjoy guys!

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER opens July 20, 2011. It is directed by Joe Johnston, it stars Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, and Stanley Tucci.

BATTLE: LOST ANGELES, CAPTAIN AMERICA, RANGO & THOR Super Bowl Teaser

Here's a big old post with more trailers from the Super Bowl so far!

First up, is BATTLE: LOST ANGELES. This movie has me excited of being a different kind of alien invasion movie. It seems to have more of the gritty, urban warfare style. It's a welcome change instead of more wise cracking Will Smith movies. My only apprehension is SKYLINE looked just as cool if not more, and well...we know what happened there.

The CAPTAIN AMERICA teaser is very effective, showing quick part of the origin story with Chris Evans going through his transformation. The best part was the single image of Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. I'm pretty lukewarm on this movie, as it reminds me of lower tier Marvel movies like DAREDEVIL and THE FANTASTIC FOUR.

RANGO, was a movie I was very apprehensive against, but I have warmed up to it. Once the earlier trailers hit and I got a feel for the style and the type of story it was, I'm more excited for what will be Johnny Depp's redeeming performance after ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

THOR was a particularly great teaser, and it gave enough action shots that make you wonder what the hell is going on. It's very well cut, and the scope of the movie seems to be epic on scale, that will probably be matched only by THE AVENGERS movie. Two complaints...what's Sauron doing here, and please don't let their be too much love/hate banter between Thor and Natalie Portman's character.
