New MAN OF STEEL Trailer Has 1000% More Zod

Forget all the whimsical and introspective teasers and the epic full length trailer (though that one is pretty awesome). This new MAN OF STEEL trailer focuses on the person who will more than likely steal, no pun intended, the film, General Zod portrayed by Michael Shannon. I have complete faith in Michael Shannon and his capabilities to portray evil. In fact, he's the main reason I've been so excited for this film.

We got a few seconds of his crazy eyes in the epic trailer, but here, we find out a little more of his intentions. This trailer also shows more/different pieces of action that he haven't seen in previous ones. Oh yes, and it has a bit more Amy Adams.

MAN OF STEEL Trailer Drops!

Could it be possible that a Superman movie could cause this much anticipation? The first few stills of the film looked a little cheesy, but then when the teaser trailer dropped, it made me sit up and pay attention. Also, seeing the teaser trailer on the IMAX screen may or may not have given me goosebumps.

Now, the full length trailer is here with tons and tons of footage including some humor and plenty of amazing action. There's so much to cipher through that this requires more than one view. Here's to hoping that director Zack Synder took a note from Christopher Nolan's, who served as a producer, book of how to make superhero movies and created a Superman film with some emotional depth.

MAN OF STEEL trailer is so dark and gritty, it's almost like a Batman movie

Just in case you guys couldn't tell I was joking. It's really not. Reading some of the reactions of fellow writer types online, I kept on seeing the "dark and gritty" description being used again and again to describe this trailer. I respectfully say "y'all be trippin'." I think MAN OF STEEL looks interesting. This looks to be a more refined approach the more thoughtful type of Superman we got in SUPERMAN RETURNS. And I'll be honest, I've never been a big fan of the Superman character in most media, so I'm always open to a new direction or interpretation for the character. Check out this gorgeous trailer courtesy of the Warner Bros YouTube page below.

MAN OF STEEL Trailers Drop!

Attached to THE DARK KNIGHT RISES this weekend was the much anticipated teaser for MAN OF STEEL. Now, since we saw Batman at an IMAX screening, we did not get to see this trailer. Strangely enough, we didn't have any trailers before RISES. But never fear, that's what the internet is for!

There are two different versions of the trailer. Well, it's actually the same version but with two different voice overs: one by Kevin Costner, as Superman's dad, Jonathan Kent, and the other by Russell Crowe, as Superman's biological father, Jor-El.

Minor News: Ridley Scott, THE MAN OF STEEL

Javi here. Just wanted to drop by with some minor news today. So minor, they'll be in one post!

First up, we have Deadline reporting that director Ridley Scott will come back to the world of Deckard and Replicants with a new BLADE RUNNER movie as a director/producer.  This comes after the PROMETHEUS movie that he is currently directing, which may or may not be an ALIEN prequel/sequel/reboot. I can't imagine why this is a good idea, seeing as how the fame of this movie was mostly through the cult following and the influence it has had on sub-sequent science fiction in the years since. The movie had a lot of things to say about humanity and its relationship with technology. What could another movie have to say? This feels more of a cash grab than anything, and I would be really curious to see what/if any the point of this movie is.  I would hope that Scott would not want be THAT guy (again) and just go back to an old film of his for the sake of money.  There's been decent buzz about PROMETHEUS, but can he potentially do a reboot/sequel/prequel well twice in a row? Not much else is known, but since I'm a big fan of the original.  I'll be sure to stay up to date with this.

Second, we have Comic Book Movies, who has posted the official synopsis for the upcoming Zack Snyder Superman movie, THE MAN OF STEEL: "In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question - Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as "Superman," not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves."

I love how this description says he is the most recognizable and revered.  I've always found Superman and his stories, both on and off the screen, to be the most boring of any superheroes unless he is paired up with other heroes such as Batman and Wonder Woman. Put me in the category of "Not Very Interested". There hasn't been a Superman reboot in a long time, but just like with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, I just don't feel like paying for the same story I've seen so many times.

First look at Henry Cavill as Superman from Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL

When Superman is mentioned to the common minion, like myself, I think of the clean cut, bright-colored suit wearing, all-American Superman:

However, the new Zack Snyder reboot, MAN OF STEEL, is not your grandmother's Superman.  We are still a little less than two years away from the release of MAN OF STEEL, but that doesn't stop Warner Bros from releasing the first picture of Henry Cavill as the new Superman to get the the buzz going.

Sweet Intimidating Mustaches! Daniel Day Lewis in Zack Snyder's Superman?

There are actors and then there's Daniel Day-Lewis. The man has had an amazing career full of critically acclaimed works, and a great ability to grow an awesome mustache and recited the line that inspired the name of this blog. The big complaint about him is how picky he can be with his roles. I believe my diminutive partner has claimed he could be blamed of picking only Oscar Bait role, which I couldn't defend because on the surface it seems pretty true.

But, according to Badass Digest and Moviehole, he is being considered for a role in the upcoming Superman movie by director Zack Snyder. I'd rather not speculate, because frankly, I'm not that saavy, but I really like BAD's prediction of Day-Lewis playing Superman's dad Jor-El. I would say Jonathan "Pa" Kent, if Kevin Costner wasn't rumored to be playing him already. At this point it's anyone's guess. I will say that as a great fan of the man, I hope Day-Lewis starts taking more high profile and less "artsy" roles all the time. I'd love to see him in a straight up comedy (I know, I know wishful thinking.) Who else do you guys think he could play apart from Jor-El or Jonathan "Pa" Kent?

Brand New SUCKER PUNCH trailer.

Yahoo! Movies and Warner Bros. released another trailer for director Zack Snyder's new film, SUCKER PUNCH today. It looks like more of the same action that we have seen, but the effects and visuals are just downright amazing. I will say I've always had mixed feelings about this movie. The premise where a young girl (Emily Browning) takes refuge in her mind after being put in a mental hospital where along with her friends (Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung.) fight dragons, robots and everything in between all while shooting awesome guns, wielding swords, and wearing skimpy outfits. This makes it awesome and sound like some nerds half-assed fan-fiction. However, watching this trailer almost makes it appear like a darker, female-oriented SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. Anyway, enjoy the trailer, let us know what you think!

Sucker Punch is directed by Zack Snyder, it stars Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, and Jamie Chu. It comes out March 25th 2011 in 3D.
