Netflix Instant: TV & Movie Picks - So You're Single During The Holidays Edition

I'm pretty open about the fact that I'm not a big fan of Christmas and the holiday seasons for many reasons. Between the crappy Christmas music and the Lifetime movies, December can't end enough, but for some reason it's especially worse for single people during the holidays. Since I'm in this particular situation this year, I figured it'd be pretty appropriate to highlight some movies that will totally that will remind you that you're single. Remember that everyone of these movies should be seen on a Friday night with a bottle of wine. Alone. In the dark. Check out my picks after the break.

BELLFLOWER
Slightly disturbing sexist undertones aside, this movie hit me pretty hard in its depiction of someone that's not emotionally mature deal with a bad break up. The apocalyptic imagery and the construction of Medusa (the bad ass flame throwing car from the poster) are all good but obvious metaphors for the fall out of a relationship and the way dumb dudes try to cope with it.

I'll admit I haven't seen this all the way through. However, the subject matter of a couple being torn apart by distance is something I know about. What makes this so sad; is that life just ends up getting in the way and even though there's nothing you can do about it, it can affect a relationship.

This one is every (non-creepy) nice dude's worst nightmare; where you think your marriage is going great and all of the sudden your wife makes a connection with another guy.

Depending on how you read the ending of this modern classic, it can either be a depressing look at the almost toxic patterns we can get in with our significant others, or the determination of two people that belong together trying to make it work. I'll choose the former interpretation.

That's it for me today.  Jonesy will be choosing some great (and hopefully more cheerful) movies next week.
