First Look at Bane from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

I don't think there's a question that THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will be THE movie next summer.  The craze and anticipation have only been heightened with the release of the teaser poster and trailer.  Now, we have pictures from the set of Tom Hardy as Bane.

Check out the pictures after the break...

I Can't Wait For The Outrage On This One: Lucky McKee's THE WOMAN Trailer Hits

Javi here. There are those movies that you hear are so messed up that you just have to watch them.  The reasons are many but they all lead down the same path of you giving in to your curiosity for some perverse reason.  One of my most recent experiences like this is when I saw ANTI CHRIST just for hearing the outrage coming out of Cannes.  It ended up being one of my favorite movies of the year, and now I can say it's in my top movies of all time.  Last year there was A SERBIAN FILM, if you could get a hold of it, and now it seems that director Lucky McKee's THE WOMAN will be that movie this year. It tells the story of a family man doing some rather questionable things (do married men do anything but?) to a wild woman he finds while he is out hunting. Check out the trailer below.

Rob Gordon will go full Cage for THE FROZEN GROUND

How can THIS guy kill anyone? Isn't he dreamy ladies?
Javi here.  Just real quick to clarify, the phrase "going full Cage" was an awesome phrase coined by the handsome fellas over at The Golden Briefcase, firstshowing.net 's podcast.  Follow the link to listen to them! (Seriously, do it)

Mind you, this guy will play the good cop
Anyway! What has me excited is seeing John Cusack and Nicholas Cage reuniting for another movie since CON AIR, for new coming director Scott Walker's upcoming THE FROZEN GROUND.  According to Deadline, this will have Cusack portraying real life mild-mannered family man Robert Hansen, who instead of taking up golfing, kidnaps young women and hunts them in the Alaskan wilderness.  Nicholas "Bad Lieutenant" Cage will be the good guy in this story, an Alaskan State Trooper, who along with the only surviving victim of Cusack's game, hunt him down and bring him to justice.

I am a huge fan of both these actors both for their bad roles and their good roles, and seeing them together makes me pretty happy.  There's no release date yet, but stay tuned for more news on THE FROZEN GROUND here.

From The "I Can't Believe This Is A Real Movie" Files: BATTLESHIP teaser arrives!

Not an actual movie set.
Javi here.  I know it's funny for me to make fun of a movie that's based off of a Hasbro property as is director Peter Berg's BATTLESHIP, considering I have a certain amount of love/hate relationship w/the TRANSFORMERS movies and GI JOE: RISE OF COBRA.  The only difference is that the previous two properties had fiction, BATTLESHIP is a board game.  Where the hell are the red pegs? Anyway, earlier today Yahoo released the trailer.  Check it out below.

Random Trailer Day: SPIDER-MAN and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3

So many speculations surround the new Spider-man movie.  Will it be good?  The original series was pretty great, give or take Spider-man 3, so why reboot the series?  Well, hopefully those questions will be answered once THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is released.  Or we will all still wonder why they rebooted the series.  In any event, here's the official trailer for the new movie, and I have to say, the last half is pretty fantastic:

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN will be released July 3, 2012 starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Dennis Leary, and Irrfan Khan.

Also, today we got our first preview of the new PARANORMAL ACTIVITY movie.  Now, I really enjoyed 1 and 2 of this series.  After seeing 2, I was thoroughly impressed with how the filmmakers were able to build on the story arc of the 1 so naturally.  Yes, a lot of the scares were the same, but I completely dug it.  Now, we have a look at 3, which seems to delve more into the history of the spirit that has tormented the two sisters since childhood.  And I have totally done the sequence at the end of the trailer at sleepovers, but not with the same results...enjoy!

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 will be released October 21, 2011.

IRON LADY teaser trailer: Meryl looks fierce!

We love her here at WDYMS, and she's pretty much the queen of the cinema. Anything she touches pretty much turns to gold. Now, her new movie, THE IRON LADY, Meryl Streep takes the title role as the notorious enigmatic British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. We've been teased with some pictures of Streep as Thatcher, and now we're treated to a quick glimpse of the upcoming biopic.

It's short, sweet, and Streep, as always, looks fierce and focused in her role. Check it out:

THE IRON LADY will be released January 2012 starring Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent, Anthony Head, and Richard E. Grant.

Netflix Instant: Cool TV and Movie Picks

Hey everyone, Jonesy back again with hopefully something for everyone:

A wonderful documentary about the comedian Bill Hicks.  The movie takes a look at the roots of the comedian including insightful interviews with his close family, friends, and colleagues.  Taking his influences from greats such as George Carlin and Richard Pryor, Hicks made a splash on the comedy circuit with his dark humor and spot on culture commentary.

I remember this movie being on TV one idle Saturday afternoon, and not thinking much of it, I started watching and feel in love.  Written and directed by Robert Rodriguez (yes, that one), SPY KIDS follows a brother and sister as they try to rescue their parents, who are former spys and have been kidnapped.  A great, fun, and smart family film.

As many of you know, here at WDYMS, we went and watched RUBBER a few months ago with not the best experience.  Now that experience is behind us, everyone can experience the magic that is RUBBER for themselves.  This movie is absolutely ridiculous, yet somehow, it's so much fun.  If you can't concede to the premise that a tire comes to life and starts to kill people...then this movie isn't for you.

Update: The Almost Annual Summer Bet

A couple months ago, we posted about our Almost Annual Summer Bet details.  Well, with one movie in the bag, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, we have the week one results.

( Originally when we set our terms, both movies were being released on a Friday.  However, as we all know, Transformers was moved up two days earlier.  So, we decided that the winner would be the biggest gross after 7 days. )

After 7 days in the theatre, Transformers has made a whopping $188,588,858....damn.  And that's only the 6th best gross for a movie after the first 7 days.  Oh man, do my Harry Potter fans need to come out in droves to help me win this.  Movies 6 and 7 each take spots 10 and 11 respectively on this same list, so there is hope for me.   Only time will tell.

But seriously...I HAVE TO WIN THIS!

TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON is now in 3D IMAX and theaters.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2 will be released July 15th, 2011.
