Netflix Instant: TV and Movie Picks

We're about half way through the year and in the dead of summer. It's slowly climbing to 100 degrees everyday here in Dallas, so sometimes it's a very easy decision just to stay in, chill on the couch, and watch a movie. If you're like me and sometimes 100 degrees doesn't sound appealing, here are some titles to keep you company.

Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy Is Coming To Richardson Drafthouse!

“Blood and Ice Cream” Trilogy Event July 25th:
Alamo Drafthouse Richardson Hosts THE WORLD’S END Preview Screening, Special Guests

On Thursday, July 25th, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Richardson will host a very special FREE advance screening of THE WORLD’S END inside the yet-to-be-open Alamo Drafthouse Richardson followed by a FREE double feature of the classics SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004) and HOT FUZZ (2007) outside in the Alamo parking lot on the 40-foot Rolling Roadshow screen. THE WORLD’S END is in the tradition of the earlier movies as the final film in the “Blood and Ice Cream” Trilogy.

The Trilogy’s director Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will be in attendance to introduce the films and take part in a special Q&A. Trilogy fans are encouraged to come dressed as a giant Cornetto ice cream cone, zombie, cop, or a zombie cop!

Alamo Richardson's programmer James Wallace had this to say about the event: "We could not be more excited to host the ‘Blood and Ice Cream’ Trilogy in its entirety as a part of our pre-grand opening festivities...and having the guys here to present it is just the chocolate sauce on top. When I think of filmmakers that ARE Alamo, Wright, Pegg, and Frost are at the top of that list. It's going to be a bloody awesome night that no movie nerd will want to miss."

A FIELD IN ENGLAND Trailer Is The Best Thing You'll See Today

A FIELD IN ENGLAND is quickly rising to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year. It has one of my favorite modern directors (Ben Wheatley) and it somehow involves psychedelics, what's not to love? Thanks to Bloody Disgusting we the most unique trailer I've seen in a while. Given the psychedelic tone and the macabre illustrations, it seems to fit the movie based on the description of it. Check out the trailer and the synopsis below.

ANCHORMAN 2 Trailer...Yes, This Is Finally Happening!

Will Ferrell went through this weird stage in his career after SNL where he was in these mindless comedies. I never particularly was keen on them; however, ANCHORMAN seemed to stick with me. Maybe it was Adam McKay's direction, or perhaps it was the strong comedic cast, but ANCHORMAN is consistently funny even on rewatches.

And guys, a sequel is happening. And not just a haphazard sequel, but a legit same writers, director, and cast sequel. And it looks just as funny and insane as the first.

THE WOLF OF WALL STREET Trailer Shows DiCaprio's Sweet Dance Moves

The title of this article is a little misleading, but DiCaprio does bust a move towards the end of this trailer. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET will be DiCaprio and Scorsese's 5th collaboration. DiCaprio will portray Jordan Belfort, a former wall street tycoon who made millions but eventually was indicted for fraud and money laundering.

Even though this could have easily ended up a more serious look at the evil people of wall street, the trailer suggests more of a dark comedy.

Netflix Instant: TV and Movie Picks

Whew. It's getting hot outside. If your community pool is too crowded with kids cannonballing and you don't want to fight the crowds to see MAN OF STEEL this weekend, then I have some Netflix Instant picks for you. As usual, my choices are all over the place, but then if I had a theme, that just wouldn't sound like me, would it?

Full ELYSIUM Trailer Drops So Much Sassy Matt Damon

In a summer that seems to be filled with a post-apotcalyptic stories, ELYSIUM seems to be one of the few stand out thrillers. Maybe that's the biased towards director Neill Blomkamp, who directed one of my favorites, DISTRICT 9. In ELYSIUM, Blomkamp is back telling an allegorical story of class struggle with the poor having to live on Earth, but the rich live in a space city called Elysium.

We got a teaser trailer a couple months ago, but now we get a giant, full trailer which elaborates on more details of why Matt Damon is trying to get up to Elysium. This trailer could be filled with some plot spoilers, so I would steer clear if you want to go in completely blind.

But otherwise, check it out after the break!

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG Trailer: More Action But Not Enough Cumberbatch

I still stand by that THE HOBBIT should have been two movies and not three. There's enough in the book to create two tight, action packed films, but three films feels a little excessive. The first one, which made a pretty penny this past winter, was fun thanks to Martin Freeman's performance as Bilbo, but overall felt a little dull.

Now we have our first look at the second installment which will be out this winter, THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG. With the first being more about getting on the road, the second seems to focus more on action, which will be very much welcomed. We also get our first look at Evangeline Lilly kicking some ass.

Check the trailer after the break.
