Netflix Instant: TV & Movie Picks

This week I decided to highlight some notable new releases for Netflix Instant. It'll be a good break from all of the Oscar movies. I was going to write about more Oscar movies on Netflix, until I saw that most of the Oscar winning movies were not that great to begin with. Check out this other list instead after the break!

This special is the In Rainbows of comedy specials and potentially movie distribution. If you guys remember, this was the special that Louis C.K. put up on his site for just $5 in a DRM-free file in SD and HD. After that, many comics including Rob Delaney, Aziz Ansari and Maria Bamford have followed suit. The special itself is the usual top notch material coming out from Louis C.K., talking about being a dad and his new found fame. He is one of the most mainstream comics out right now, but the praise heaped on him is always deserved.

[REC] 3: GENESIS
I love the [REC] series. Not only is it a horror movie in Spanish, but it's easily one of the few series within the "found footage" sub genre that could be considered good. The sequel built quite a bit upon the mythos and flipped what you thought happened in the first movie on its head. This one is tonally different to say the least, with some added comedy bits, but still above and beyond than say PARANORMAL ACTIVITY.

This is one comes with a warning: it's kind of terrible. Now, I'm not a big fan of the Universal Soldier franchise. I think I saw the first one way before college and didn't even know there were sequels until this one. Reading up on it, even for people that have seen the series, this movie makes no sense. There's a lot for you to infer. Somehow the good guys are bad guys now. Characters drop in and out of the story and plot points are introduced out of nowhere. At the same time, the action is so kick ass and the movie is so "bad it's good," I feel the need to recommend it. I guess if you want to be "deep" about it, you could say that the movie deals idealism and how it can very easily be twisted to an evil purpose?

That's it for me guys. I hope you all enjoy. Quick plug, our good friends from the The Break Room invited us and we talked about the Oscars there for a good hour or so plus an exclusive interview with Kevin Sorbo. So give it a listen to episode 155 and subscribe why don't ya? The show is funny and they cover a lot of fun topics. Until next time.
