YOU'RE NEXT has had to jump through a lot of hoops to get here. It had its U.S. premiere at Fantastic Fest in 2011; however, it only had one screening. The second screening got pulled by the studio, and so it became THE film that everyone wished they had seen, but only a few did. Now, it's finally gone through the studio ringer and has a release date.
The buzz about this film is insane coming out of SXSW. Thankfully, most people are keeping their mouths quiet about the details, but word on the interwebs is this film has a great spin on the home invasion horror film.
Here's the synopsis:
In the film, while on a getaway, the Davidson family comes under attack. When Crispian Davidson brings his new girlfriend along to celebrate his parent's wedding anniversary, the family's evening together is shattered when a gang of mysterious killers begin to hunt the family down with brutal precision. Unfortunately for the killers however, one of the victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.

I was hesitant to watch the trailer, but according to reliable sources who have seen the film, the trailer doesn't give away any major details. I hope any subsequent trailers keep any major plot points secret because nothing ruins a horror movie more than a bad, spoilery trailer. However, this one is super creepy and intense once the invaders show up. And I'm not one that normally gets weirded out by fake animal masks, but those are down right eerie.
YOU'RE NEXT will be released August 23, 2013, is directed by Adam Wingard, and stars Sharni Vinson, AJ Bowen, Amy Seimetz, Barbara Crampton, and Ti West.
