Fantastic Fest 2013 Special Event: Evening of Cinema and Conversation with Errol Morris!

Last year, I was thoroughly impressed with the amount of documentaries Fantastic Fest scheduled, and one of them, THE AMERICAN SCREAM , ended up being one of my favorites for the year. So, I am stoked to see what they come up with this year.

Today, Fantastic Fest has announced a special event with acclaimed documentarian, Errol Morris. This will be an insightful and memorable event as Morris discusses his career, and the audience is treated to his new film, THE UNKNOWN KNOWN, a documentary delving into the career of former Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld.

Check all the details after the break.

FANTASTIC FEST AND BADASS DIGEST PRESENT A SPECIAL EVENING OF CINEMA AND CONVERSATION WITH
DIRECTOR ERROL MORRIS

Fantastic Fest and Badass Digest are thrilled to honor legendary director Errol Morris with a special evening of cinema and conversation on Saturday, September 21st at Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline in Austin, TX. The evening will begin with the induction of Mr. Morris into the Badass Hall of Fame and a career-spanning discussion with the renowned director and Badass Digest Editor-in-Chief Devin Faraci.  A screening of Mr. Morris' THE UNKNOWN KNOWN will follow with a post-screening audience Q&A.

Fantastic Fest and Badass Digest are celebrating Errol Morris as both an innovator and a maverick whose body of work serves as inspiration for filmmakers of all genres. Morris' work has redefined the documentary form and influenced countless directors and producers. In addition to his formal innovations, Morris' penchant for exploring unusual and controversial subjects that others refuse to tackle sets him apart from his contemporaries.

"Our definition of a badass is someone who is uncompromising, who doesn't wait for everyone else to catch up and who makes an impact while they're at it," says Badass-in-Chief Devin Faraci. "Errol Morris easily fits that bill. His films have changed individual lives and have changed the way we look at ourselves as people. And they do all that while being fascinating, wry and absolutely entertaining."

Commenting on his induction into the Badass Hall of Fame, Mr. Morris said, "Thank you.  I'll try to have an impeccably bad attitude about this award."

Morris' film THE UNKNOWN KNOWN is a gripping exploration of the career and philosophy of former U.S Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. Using declassified memos, Morris guides Rumsfeld through a discussion of his controversial career as a high-level executive under four different Republican presidents. Such absorbing topics as Vietnam, the Cold War, Desert Storm and the War on Terror are all examined through the words of one of America's most divisive and complex public figures.
