The Local Haps: May 20th-May 26th


Here's another edition of the Local Haps where we take a look at any Dallas movie-related events for the week. Check them out after the break. 




Tuesday, May 20th
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE:
THE BIG LEBOWSKI Quote-A-Long at 7:10pm. The favorite movie of stoners and bros alike, this should be a fun screening with drink specials and party favors to make the quote along a lot of fun. Asian Movie Madness presents IP MAN 7:15pm, the semi-biographical tale of Yip Man, a grandmaster of Wing Chun and Bruce Lee's master. This movie brought lead actor Donnie Yen international acclaim.


Wednesday, May 21st
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE:
MEAN GIRLS Quote A-long at 7:00pm. Insert "We wear pink on Wednesday" joke here.
Zzanng! BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA 8:00pm. The John Carpenter classic screens once again and it's still awesome.


Friday, May 23rd.
TEXAS THEATRE: SPIKE AND MIKE'S FESTIVAL OF ANIMATION will begin its weekend run today at 7:15pm.

ANGELIKA: The After-Hours series returns with director Matt Reeve's seminal found footage disaster movie, CLOVERFIELD at 11:30pm. Also, first time director Gia Coppola's debut PALO ALTO opens today.

Saturday, May 24th
TEXAS THEATRE: THE HOLY MOUNTAIN in 35mm at 7:15pm. This is one of Alejandro Jodorowsky's follow up to EL TOPO. Here's the synopsis from the TT site: A Christ-like vagrant and thief wanders through a perverse and unfriendly land until he encounters an enlightened one, who gathers the thief and six of the world’s most powerful individuals for a spiritual pilgrimage.

KLYDE WARREN PARK: Continuing the Classics at the Park series, we have director Elia Kazan's ON THE WATERFRONT, starring Marlon Brando. It's free and it starts around 8pm or when the sun goes down on the East Lawn.

Sunday, May 25th
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE:
INVESTIGATION OF A CITIZEN ABOVE SUSPICION at noon. The classic Elio Petri thriller screens as part of the Drafthouse's Big Bads theme for the month.


Monday, May 26th
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE: FUNimationat the Movies: LET ME OUT at 7:00pm. If you won't be spending your Memorial Day by the pool and grillin' and drinkin' and whatever else it is that people do,
