The Local Haps: February 3rd- February 9th

It's the season of love and assorted chocolates, and that makes you sick, then there are always a great selection of movies playing around DFW to keep your mind off of it. Yes, there are romance movies here, but there are plenty of other films including Oscar contenders, secret screening, and my pick of the week, a musical (of the non-romance variety)!

Tuesday, February 3rd
Alamo Drafthouse: It's the season of love, and start off the month with a Girlie Night viewing of PRETTY WOMAN at 7 pm. Red dress and pearls optional. If dancing is more your style, there will also be a showing of STRICTLY BALLROOM at 8 pm.

Texas Theatre: The Drafthouse Films' feature, R100, will show at 7 pm, and no amount of preparation can prepare you for the weirdness of this feature. Then at 9 pm, Tuesday Night Trash presents CHESTY ANDERSON, U.S. NAVY.

Wednesday,  February 4th
Alamo Drafthouse: The Baz Lurhmann love fest continues with a showing of ROMEO + JULIET (which is a pretty great adaptation) at 7 pm. On the classic side, at 7:45 pm, a screening of Kubrick's LOLITA will be showing.

Sundown At Granada: Free movie and whiskey specials. THE NEVERENDING STORY will show on the rooftop of Sundown at Granada at 8:30 pm. It's also supposed to be very nice outside, so take advantage of the weather now.

Thursday,  February 5th
Alamo Drafthouse: A very special presentation of the documentary CREATIVE DOMAIN will be shown at 7 pm, in partnership with AIR, the Arts Incubator of Richardson. The film documents three creations of world renowned choreographer, Paul Taylor. This screening will be a fundraiser for AIR. And to complete the Lurhmann trilogy, a personal favorite, a MOULIN ROUGE sing-along will screen at 7:45 pm. A film I will love until my dyyyyyyyyyiiiiiiiinnnng daaaaaaayyyyyyy!

Texas Theatre: Part one of the Oscar nominated short docs will play at 7 pm. This is a great opportunity to see the short films, which are normally more difficult to find.

Friday,  February 6th
Texas Theatre: Another Oscar contender for foreign feature, IDA, will be showing at 7 pm THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY will show at 8:50 pm, and you can check out Javi's review here from Fantastic Fest.

Saturday,  February 7th
Alamo Drafthouse: The Bondthology screenings continue with A VIEW TO KILL at 7 pm. Then, in my personal pick of the week, The Action Pack presents ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW at 11 pm. Costumes, toast, and dancing of the Time Warp encouraged!

Sunday, February 8th
Alamo Drafthouse: The classic FROM HERE TO ETERNITY will show at 12:30 pm.

Texas Theatre: Part two of the Oscar nominated short docs will show at 6:30 pm.

Monday, February 9th
Alamo Drafthouse: After seeing Jimmy Fallon's amazing lip sync battle with Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell, a screening of DIRTY DANCING couldn't come at a more perfect time. The dancing will begin at 7 pm, so brush up on your dance moves, carry the watermelon, and come to this quote-along. And the always entertaining and surprising AGFA screening will commence at 8 pm.
