The Local Haps: June 22nd - June 28th

Now that the solstice has come and gone, we're officially in the summer season and without the torrential downpours we've been experiencing, the temperatures have already started climbing to the 90's. So why not beat the heat and check out these awesome screenings? Check them out after the break.

Monday, June 22nd
Alamo Drafthouse: As part of the Chiller X Mondo series and to commemorate the release of the Lucio Fulci's Horror & Thriller Compilation, there will be an 8:30 pm screening of the director's THE BEYOND.

Tuesday, June 23rd
Alamo Drafthouse: The blanket 80's nostalgia going down right now is interesting for me since I didn't really see many of these movie in Mexico and I never grew up on them so the first time I saw them was when I was a teenager or a college student. Without the nostalgia it's a lot easier to see the flaws of these movies, which is why I don't understand the popularity of THE GOONIES. But if you do, you should come and check it out at 8:00. After Rocky Balboa there was COBRA. Sylvester Stallone's no-nonsense cop character is one of my favorites and this Tough Guy Cinema screening 7:40 pm is guaranteed to awesome.

Wednesday, June 24th
Alamo Drafthouse: While it seems that it pops up at least once a month, the MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL Quote Along is always a great time for fans of the classic. You can start your quest at 8:00 pm.

Thursday, June 25th
Granada Theater: A $3 screening of ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT begins at 8:00 pm.

Friday, June 26th
Granada Theater: Another $3 screening, this time of the uber-manly Western, TOMBSTONE starts at 8:00 pm. Seriously, this might be one of the manliest movies ever with a cast that includes Charlton Heston, Sam Elliott, Powers Boothe, Kurt Russell and Stephen Lang.

Saturday, June 27th
Alamo Drafthouse:  Continuing the Bondthology series, we're getting into the lowest of lows with the Pierce Brosnan run. This time with DIE ANOTHER DAY ,  starting at 7:00 pm.

Granada Theater: The action movie that defined a generation, FACE/OFF, that cemented actors John Travolta and Nic Cage's status as total weirdos screens tonight at 8:00 pm.

Sunday, June 28th
Alamo Drafthouse: You can never go wrong with a Humphrey Bogart movie on a Sunday. This time around, the Drafthouse is showing THE TREASURE OF SIERRA MADRE about a couple of drifters who come across the potential of gold thanks to a prospector but as always, it's never that easy as they run into a host of nefarious characters in the process.

Granada Theater: Life will find a way and be back with this JURASSIC PARK/ TERMINATOR 2 double feature that starts at 2:30 pm.

Texas Theatre: PICK OF THE WEEK! Yes, we are getting to the point of having anniversary shows for the Power Rangers. This was actually a huge deal for me back when I was younger. Truth be told, the Japanese series that they were based on were a lot crazier. All of this goes to say that this 20th anniversary screening MIGHTY MORPHIN' POWER RANGERS: THE MOVIE is kind of a big deal.  Karan Ashley and Steve Cardenas who played the Yellow and second Red Ranger respectively will be in attendance for autographs.
