THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY Is Sure To Delight Middle-Aged Suburbanites Everywhere

This movie just looks like every GARDEN STATE/ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND mashup and rip off that has been released in the year since those movies came out. I actually feel terrible about being completely turned off by this movie based on the trailers. It feels like I'm being a simpleton (probably), but the heart wants what it wants.

Check out the trailer below thanks to CinemaBlend

Between the hokey "Haven't you done anything memorable in your life" "Where do you go" line and the cheesy faux-indiefolk Of Monsters and Men song playing, it all feels like some 40 year old saw GARDEN STATE, made a checklist and tried to copy it. It doesn't matter if the short story is over 50 years ago, it still feels like a bad copy of the surreal movies of early aughts. WALTER MITTY sounds like the type of movie for people that think EAT, PRAY, LOVE or THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL was some sort of call to action to break from their normal lives. On the upside, if you want to drop off your mom and dad at this movie during Christmas, you can get a break from the family.

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY is directed by Ben Stiller, it stars himself, Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Sean Penn, Patton Oswalt, and Shirley MacLaine and comes out on December 25th.
