THE VISITOR Trailer Wants You To Know How Crazy The Movie Is

Drafthouse Films has been constantly releasing amazing movies and exposing them to the masses for a couple of years now. Just this year, they've released three of my favorite movies in I DECLARE WAR, THE ACT OF KILLING, and the upcoming THE CONGRESS. Now, they have taken it upon themselves to release THE VISITOR, a trippy sci-fi adventure featuring a girl, her evil hawk, and some sort of Christ
figure. The new trailer courtesy of the Drafthouse Vimeo page is a brand new version cut by HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN director Jason Eisener.

Check it out after the break.

So I'm a little conflicted about this movie. On one hand, I think it looks like a very interesting film. The psychedelic aesthetic is something I'm a big nerd for. On the other hand, it feels like the movie is just being released and praised purely on hype of how weird it is and how the cast is so diverse, but never about how it's a great or good movie. DHF's output has never necessarily been to release weird movies for weirdness' sake, and that's what this movie feels like. But it's movie I'll definitely be seeing this weekend at our local Drafthouse.

Here's the synopsis by Drafthouse Films:

In this unforgettable assault on reality--restored and presented uncut theatrically for the first time ever in the U.S.--legendary Hollywood director/actor John Huston (The Maltese Falcon; Treasure Of The Sierra Madre) stars as an intergalactic warrior who joins a cosmic Christ figure in battle against a demonic 8-year-old girl, and her pet hawk, while the fate of the universe hangs in the balance. Multi-dimensional warfare, pre-adolescent profanity and brutal avian attacks combine to transport the viewer to a state unlike anything they've experienced... somewhere between Hell, the darkest reaches of outer space, and Atlanta, GA . The Visitor fearlessly fuses elements of The Omen, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, The Birds, Rosemary’s Baby, The Fury and even Star Wars creating the most ambitious of all '70s psychedelic mindwarps . Its baffling all-star cast includes Shelley Winters (Night Of The Hunter), Glenn Ford (Superman), Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Franco Nero (Django) and Sam Peckinpah (director of The Wild Bunch).

THE VISITOR is directed by Giulio Paradisi, it stars Sam Peckinpah, Shelley Winters, Paige Conner, Lance Henriksen, John Huston, Glenn Ford and Mel Ferrer. It is out this weekend in select Alamo Drafthouse theaters. Check here for listings here.
