Netflix Instant: Movie & TV Picks - Old Dudes, War Criminals, and Killer Giants Edition!

I do apologize for the delayed column. I've been tragically out of commission lately due to some non-flu type of illness. But, here are three rad picks to get you through the 3 day weekend if you'll be indoors as much as I will be.

Depending on what circles you run in, ATTACK ON TITAN is either one of the best anime of the last year or its the most overhyped anime of the last year. Thankfully for me, I'm not into anime as much as I am randomly into anime. This show is set in a futuristic Earth whose population has been reduced to almost nothing by Titan, giants who look like naked humanoids and eat humans. Our story picks up 100 years since they were last seen when the Colossus Titan breaks through the outerwall of the last human outpost. The series is 25 episodes long and covers about 11 issues of the manga. It is violent, disturbing but also well worth your time.

The famous, now Oscar nominated documentary about leaders of death squads recreating their executions like Hollywood movies is now available for streaming. Check out our review here.

The American debut of Korean director Kim Jee-Woon looked awful thanks to the trailers with Arnold spouting off old people jokes and Johnny Knoxville playing a complete idiot. I was happily surprised that both the story and the action sequences of this movie were much more badass than you could anticipate. It feels like an old school action movie, the bad guys are complete assholes and you find yourself rooting for the good guys to save the day.

And of special note, the VHS culture documentary REWIND THIS! recently came on Hulu Plus. We've not covered it in our blog much since it is directed and produced by our friends, but it also stars many of them as interview subjects and felt it would a conflict of interest. Still, they've worked really hard on this movie so I just wanted to point you to the movie. Let me know what you think of the streaming suggestions in the comments below.
