Netflix Instant: Movie & TV Picks

So, now that we're at the point of the summer blockbuster saturation point (SBSP) so how about you stay in from the summer heat and check out a couple of classy movies and the third part in a pretty fun horror trilogy. Check them out after the break.

I'll be real, guys. I hate, hate, hated this movie back when it came out. I say this with a heavy heart, given this blog is named after a Paul Thomas Anderson movie. THE MASTER is about the relationship between two men, an alcoholic serviceman, Freddie Quell (Joaquin Phoneix) and a leader of an alternative religious movement that's totally NOT Scientology, Lancaster Dodd (the late, great Phillip Seymour Hoffman), and their relationship through the years. A lot of people praised the beautiful cinematography and Phoenix's performance, while I completely came away finding Phoenix's performance repetitive and grating. For this, I want more people to check it out to carry on the conversation. Does it speak to you? I want to hear from you on the comments below or on Twitter.

This drama, coincidentally starring Joacquin Phoenix again, deals mainly with Marion Cotillard's character who is the titular immigrant that is then thrust into the world of prostitution. This has been one of more acclaimed movies of the year so far and to be honest, I'm amazed that's it come out on Netflix already.

The HATCHET trilogy by director Adam Green has always been one of those horror franchises that I've dug, if not loved. Green hits all of the usual horror movie tropes and the villain of Aleister Crowley is rad enough to follow through various movies. This time around, Green has stepped out of the director's chair and allowed a different director take his place.
