Netflix Instant TV and Movie Picks

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like Netflix is starting to get more and more awesome movies each week. Each one of my picks this week is something I either really enjoyed in the theatre or a film that I would pay on-demand prices for. But thankfully, they're streaming!

Having just seen MOONRAKER for the first time this week, my appreciation for the James Bond series has grown. It's a daunting task to come into an established series and try to bring something new. Though SKYFALL isn't my favorite of the new Bond films, it's visually the most stunning and has one of the more interesting antagonists. Plus, it's hard to resist Adele's theme song.

I've heard very polarizing opinions of this film. Director Nicolas Winding Refn is back with his BFF Ryan Gosling, after their success with DRIVE, with another dark and very bloody film. If anything, everything I've read say that the film is visually fantastic, but the story and violence could be a turn off.

As a beer connoisseur, I know that whatever knowledge I hold is nothing compared to the experts. And if I thought beer experts knew a lot, it's almost nothing compared to the wine experts that try to become a Master Sommelier. The test is usually taken three or four times by candidates before they pass. This documentary follows four candidates as they put their lives and relationships basically on hold as they study for countless hours and put themselves through grueling prep work.

A Spoilerific SKYFALL Discussion

Happy Cyber Monday everyone! If you're still feeling the effects of your carb overload from this past week, and need a place to forget about Black Friday or arguing politics while passing the dressing, then take yourself out to see SKYFALL. What follows is a SUPER SPOILERIFIC discussion about all things SKYFALL and CASINO ROYALE because let's face it, we all want to forgot the money we wasted on QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

If you've seen the films, read on. If not, go treat yourself and then come back!

SKYFALL Teaser Trailer Drops!

If you're like me, you tend to put QUANTUM OF SOLACE out of your mind. Before Daniel Craig took over the Bond franchise, I never really paid attention to the movies. The closest I came to interacting with the Bond world was playing countless hours of Goldeneye on my N64 (greatest game EVER as you know). So, I was intrigued when CASINO ROYALE came out, and I gave these films a chance. I loved CASINO and somehow when it comes on TV on an idle Saturday, I can't seem to flip the channel.

And since we don't really regard QUANTUM as much of anything, I'm pretty stoked about the upcoming Sam Mendes Bond film, SKYFALL. Premise is as follows
James Bond's loyalty to M is challenged over secrets from her past. When MI6 is attacked, it falls to Bond to seek out and eliminate the threat regardless of the cost to himself.

Javier Bardem To Make Other Javiers Look Awesome By Proxy By Being The Villain In New James Bond Movie, SKYFALL

Javi here. After all of the nonsense of the MGM bankruptcy, the Sam Mendes-helmed 23rd JAMES BOND movie is starting to take shape with its cast. Daniel Craig is coming back as the rather angsty secret agent, Ralph Fiennes is on board as an unnamed character, and now thanks to ABC by way of Comingsoon.net, we have confirmation that my second favorite Javier, Javier Bardem, will star as a villain in the next BOND movie, called SKYFALL.

This is great news in terms of exposure for the Spanish actor who, up until now, has been well known within movie nerd circles for his performances in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, BIUTIFUL, and THE SEA INSIDE. He will be getting more mainstream exposure in movie that doesn't include Julia Roberts playing a shallow and selfish woman. He is a great actor who has shown so much range in the relatively few movies that he has starred in. I remember being so emotionally drained after watching BIUTIFUL, that I had no energy left to review it. Not much else is know about the role itself, but here's the quote from the ABC interview:

"I am very excited, my parents took me to watch the movies, and I saw all of them, so to play that is going to be fun, they chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details."
